A Prayer for When Storms Arise

There are moments in life when everything seems to change in an instant. A diagnosis, a loss, a broken relationship, or an unexpected hardship can feel like a storm that appears without warning.

In Mark 4, Jesus instructed His disciples to cross to the other side of the lake. What He didn’t tell them was that a violent storm awaited them along the way. Yet even in the middle of the chaos, Jesus remained with them. The storm surprised the disciples, but it did not surprise Him.

Tammy Darling shares a powerful testimony of walking through her husband’s battle with thyroid cancer. Before the diagnosis, her husband sensed God saying, “Build a boat.” They didn’t understand the message at the time, but later realized God was preparing them for a difficult journey ahead. Through surgery, uncertainty, and months of treatment, God faithfully carried them through the storm and ultimately brought healing.

The lesson is one we all need to remember: God’s presence is often more powerful than His immediate rescue. Sometimes He calms the storm. Sometimes He calms us within it.

Whatever you’re facing today, Jesus is still in the boat. He has not abandoned you. He sees every wave, every fear, and every unanswered question. And He is faithful to bring you through.

Prayer

Jesus,

Thank You for being with us in every storm. When fear rises and uncertainty surrounds us, remind us that You have never left our side. Strengthen our faith when the waves seem overwhelming and help us trust Your promises even when we cannot see the outcome.

Teach us to rest in Your presence, knowing that You are greater than every challenge we face. Give us peace in the middle moments and confidence that You will guide us safely to the other side.

In Your name we pray,

Amen.
