MercyMe takes and introspective turn in writing their touching ballad, "Dear Younger Me". In this video, lead singer Bart Millard talks about the origin and inspiration for the song; born out of his own painful childhood and the equally sorrowful testimony of a dear friend.
Take a look!
A dear friend of mine, whose a professional athlete, about a year ago was on ESPN and he was talking about how he fell in love with baseball because he was abused by babysitters as a kid. And He chose baseball because he said that’s the one place they couldn’t get to, was on the baseball field. It broke my heart. I texted him and all I wrote was “If knew then what I know now, condemnation would have no power. My joy and pain would never be my worth. If I knew then what I know now, it wouldn’t be hard to figure out what I would’ve changed if I had heard ‘Dear younger me, it’s not your fault.’”
