Nate Bargatze shared the backstory to his SNL George Washington skit. The popular funnyman opened up about how the classic and hysterical sketch came to be, and how he didnt expect much of a reaction to it. Watch the short clip to hear Nate discuss the story behind the George Washington skit.
Most people know Nate Bargatze, one of the biggest names in comedy. In the last couple of years, his career has exploded. He has toured the world sharing his hilarious, clean comedy, has several stand-up specials on Netflix, written a book, hosted the Emmys and even had a Christmas special on CBS.
While Nate is a published author and a stand-up comedian capable of selling out massive venues, he has also hosted Saturday Night Live twice. As expected, both of his particular episodes were hilarious, delivering one hysterical sketch after another. But one will forever stand out among the rest: the George Washington dream skit.
Nate plays the legendary general and our countrys first president in it. Addressing the troops the night before battle, Nate, as George, mentions all the oddities with our country regarding weights and measures. In a clip posted on YouTube, Nate shares how it came to be and how the reaction to it surprised him.
They [SNL writers] wrote it, he said. I didnt write it. A lot of people think I wrote it. Theyre just unbelievable.
Later in the clip, Nate mentioned what happened when he first read the skit.
But when we did it in the table read, it didnt go great, he said. Because Im used to playing off a crowd.
He added that the classic skit almost didnt make it to air and was nearly cut from the show. But when they performed it during the last show before going live, it got a reaction that made everyone change their minds.
So, it was the last sketch in dress rehearsal, and it murdered, he said. It just destroyed.

Comedian Aaron Webers interaction with a plumber is too funny to miss. His conversation with the handyman will have you rolling with laughter long after the video ends. Watch the short but laugh-out-loud clip to hear how Aarons conversation and interaction with a plumber did not go as expected.
Unfortunately, not everything in life goes according to plan. If you were under that false and very incorrect impression that that was the case, my deepest apologies for having burst your bubble. The fact is that bad and unexpected things happen all the time. While we may be unable to control what happens to us, we have control over how we react.
Luckily, when those bad, unexpected issues involve something breaking or going terribly wrong around the house, there are people skilled in providing the correct solutions. Plumbers are individuals equipped with the skills and knowledge to fix many household mishaps and problems. In a clip posted on YouTube, Aaron mentioned reaching out to a plumber when he had an issue and how that interaction went.
Aaron points out that, for whatever reason, his house had sprung a leak. It was coming through the wall and into his basement. So, to correct the issue, he called a plumber but had a problem describing what was happening in his residence.
I had a plumbing issue in my basement, he said. My wall was bleeding. Thats how I said it. I couldnt think of the word leak.
When he did get hold of a plumber, he received an estimate of the handymans arrival. He knew he would have to wait a while, even though he was told differently.
I call a plumber, and he goes, Ill be out there in a jiff, he said. Now, Im not trashing plumbers, but yall know what jiff means: 19 hours.
Later in the clip, Aaron said that by the time the plumber had finally arrived, the leak had somehow stopped. Thats when things got a little awkward. But after some strange back and forth, the plumber offered to look around and see if he could find the source of the leak.

A comedian explained why married couples need to argue. The funnyman, Jeff Allen, stressed the importance of arguing in marriages and gave a hilarious reason why he believes voicing those disagreements is crucial. Watch the short but hysterical clip to hear why Jeff feels arguments are necessary for healthy marriages.
No two human beings are 100 percent alike. We are not simply replicas and carbon copies of each other. How boring would that be if we were all the same in every possible way? God is in the business of creating originals, not duplicates. We are all individuals with our own thoughts, ideas and opinions.
However, because we have different thoughts, ideas and perspectives, this can and does sometimes lead to friction and disagreements. Put two people together long enough, even the most compatible individuals in the world, and they are bound to find something they see and think about differently.
Knowing this, it would make sense that arguments are a natural part of marriage. But some people believe in avoiding disagreements at all costs, especially in marriage. But thats not a healthy way to handle disagreements. In a clip posted on YouTube, Jeff hilariously mentions why he believes couples should argue.
Youve got to argue in your marriage, he said. You dont argue in your marriage; itll build up in your brain over time and fries your brain. Yeah, then you end up like those babbling mumbling couples youve seen in Arizona, Florida.
He adds that youll often see these couples walking down the street, with the wife leading the way, and the husband lags eight feet behind her, hunched over and mumbling to himself as he follows along.
This poor guys starting to try to win back all the arguments hes been throwing away for 50 years, Jeff said. You know he was six three when he got married. Now hes four foot one, look at the poor man.

Burt Reynolds musical performance on The Carol Burnett Show went off the rails. Things started off well, but everything quickly took a turn for the worse. Watch the short but hysterical clip to see what went wrong when Burt Reynolds tried to perform a musical number on The Carol Burnett Show.
Everyone should push themselves, stretch and test their abilities. Yes, doing something new can be, and often is, frightening. Honestly, though, what is the worst thing that can happen? We fail and make a fool of ourselves in the process? Maybe, but well never know until we try, right? Who knows, we might even succeed and discover we can do something we never knew we were capable of doing.
If you ever watch an interview with an actor, they will likely talk about pushing themselves to do this or that role at some point during the discussion. Sometimes they succeed, and other times, they may not. In a clip posted on YouTube, that is exactly what Burt Reynolds did during an appearance on The Carol Burnett Show.
The clip begins with Carol mentioning that Burt is about to do something he has never done before: sing. However, the late movie star wasnt going to let that fear hold him back from trying. After her brief comments, Carol throws it to Burt, whose musical number starts off well but quickly goes downhill in a hilarious fashion.
Several women crowd around Burt as he performs a love song while dancing with them. It becomes clear early that his inexperience as a singer and dancer gets the better of him and the women around him. Everyone on stage falls or has some comedic mishap, turning the musical number into a complete disaster.
Sometimes branching out into new things isnt for everybody!

A comedian gave his hysterical reason for why he misses the America of the past. He particularly longs for the time of his youth and how people responded to certain situations. Watch the short but hilarious clip to hear why comedian Jeff Alen wants to return to an America of a bygone era.
Most people wish they could turn back time. They want to return to a period when things were simpler and life was supposedly less complicated and more straightforward. People will often describe whatever period they long for and have in their mind as the good old days.
But people often romanticize the past and remember things better than they actually were. Everyone does this to a certain extent because we all wish to pause or reverse time. No one wants to get older; aging is not much fun. Who wouldnt want to return to a time when they were much younger? In a clip posted on YouTube, Jeff explains his hilarious reason for wanting to go back to the days of his youth, before the lawyers took it over and ruined it on us.
He explains that there was much less supervision and oversight. Children were allowed to get hurt, and people really didnt take much action. In fact, he describes a situation in which an adult even assisted in a situation that was likely to end with him getting injured.
We all did dumb things, he said. Thats how you learned not to do dumb things. You do dumb things, it hurts, and you learn not to do it.
Later in the clip, Jeff mentions an instance where he was looking to perform a science experiment of sorts. He wanted to see what would happen when he put dry ice in a jar.
When I was 12, someone told me get a ball jar, a canning jar, he said. Find some dry ice, put it in the jar, put the lid on it. So, I said, Whats going to happen? They said, Its going to blow up. And I said, Cool, where do I get dry ice at? And they said, The ice cream man.
Jeff adds that he found an ice cream man nearby and explained what he was doing to the guy selling the frozen treats, and what was likely to happen. The man selling ice handed over the dry ice without any hesitation.

Nate Bargatze as George Washington delivered a hysterical dream skit on SNL. The popular comedian brought the house down with this hilarious sketch on the long-running show. Watch this short but laugh-out-loud funny clip featuring Nate playing our nations first president on Saturday Night Live.
Youve likely discovered that many things in life do not make sense. This doesnt just pertain to one area and category; it goes for just about every facet and aspect of life. There is a long and ever-expanding list of inconsistencies, hypocrisies and falsities. However, despite these things that are most certainly incorrect and dont make a bit of sense, we move along and accept them anyway, without giving it much thought.
Using quick wit and attention to detail, comedians often point out these absurdities and inconsistencies. They use humor to bring attention to things we overlook, causing us to think and laugh about oddities that we all accept for whatever reason. In a clip posted on YouTube, that is precisely what Nate does, and does so in a most hilarious fashion.
In the video, Nate is General George Washington, who gives a talk to the troops the night before they go into battle. He uses his address to remind his soldiers what they are fighting for, and in the process, he points out some things that we do and use every day that make sense.
Yes, I dream of that one day our proud nation will measure weights in pounds, and that 2,000 pounds shall be called a ton, Nate says.
When asked about the name for 1,000 pounds, Nate, as the legendary general, answered without hesitation, Nothing. As we will have no word for that.
Later in the clip, General Washington is asked if the new nation will use meters and kilometers. The general answers decisively, saying the country will, but only in the most random, strangest situations.
We will soldier, Nate says. But only in certain unpopular sports like track and swimming. For popular sports like football, we will use yards!
What an absolute gem of a sketch that will have you laughing long after it ends!

Nate Bargatze plays an angel explaining Christmas traditions in a hysterical skit. This skit featuring the popular comedian will have you laughing yourself silly. Watch the short but hilarious clip to see the skit and hear Nate explain some of our oddest traditions and practices during the holiday season.
Christmas is one of the most beautiful, wonderful times of the year. Most likely, as many beloved Christmas tunes declare, the Christmas season does beat out every other time of year. Its a time to gather with family and friends, enjoy a delicious, mouth-watering meal and open a present or two. What time of year could ever be better than that? Truly, the only downside to Christmas is the often freezing temperatures and frigid windchills that typically accompany that season.
The Christmas season is also a time for memories to be made and for annual, cherished traditions to be honored and carried out. However, some of our Christmas traditions, practices and other festival activities seem odd and out of place when given even the slightest amount of thought. A hilarious clip posted on YouTube points out some of the oddities and the strange things we do during the Christmas season.
In the skit, Nate plays an angel who arrives moments after Jesus Christ enters the world. The three wise men, Mary, and Joseph are in attendance, praising and thanking the Lord for this gift that will forever change the world.
Nate states that this momentous, world-changing moment shall be celebrated and recognized each year by gathering with family and friends, and it will forever be known as Christmas. He then explains some of the weird things people will do during the Christmas season.
Let this day be called Christmas and let it be celebrated each year by gathering with family, he says. By doing goodwill in His name and by putting a big pine tree in your house.
He adds that the tree should be decorated with bright and shiny ornaments and with garbage that your children make at school.
He also mentions the songs people will sing and perform every Christmas season, including tunes about Mary and the three wise men. When Joseph asks about songs about him, the angel sidesteps the question.
Theres going to be lots of songs, he says. Most of them wont be about whats happening here. They will be about snow and snow-related activities.

A comedian hilariously explained why he and his wife married so young. He said their rush to tie the knot was mainly because of him. Watch the short but laugh-out-loud clip to hear Dustin Nickerson's reason for wanting to get hitched so young.
Marriage should not be rushed or entered into without very serious thought and contemplation. It's a life-changing commitment and promise, vowing to remain with this person regardless of whatever life may throw in our direction. As everyone knows, that commitment and promise will be tested as couples encounter life's many ups and downs.
However, it's time to act when you have found that special person and have come to that decision after much thought and prayer. Yes, marriage is a big move and decision, but it's so fulfilling and rewarding, particularly when you have found the right person. Anyone who is married will agree wholeheartedly. Sure, it requires a lot of time and work, but anything worthwhile does, and marriage is certainly worth it.
In a clip posted on YouTube, Dustin shares that he and his wife were young when they decided to tie the knot. While he does not mention how young they were when they got married, he does share why he chose to say, I do, as a young man.
We got married really young, he said. The reason we got married young is because I fell for a girl way out of my league, and I found out she was into me, and I thought, 'I need to make this legally binding.' I need this woman to swear to God that she'll never leave me.
While Dustin's comment about getting married so young because his now-wife is way out of his league, every man will know and understand this situation. They are out of our league, yet they want to be with us for some reason.
Genesis 2:24 For this cause will a man go away from his father and his mother and be joined to his wife; and they will be one flesh.
Chris Tomlin hilariously told comedian John Crist how he handles bad songs. The popular Christian music artist has a particular way of dealing with songs that arent up to his standards. Watch the short but hysterical clip to listen to Chris and John discuss his actions when hearing songs that will not make the album.
Human beings are a fallen, imperfect group, in case you werent already aware of that fact. We all stumble and fall, even after weve asked for forgiveness and accepted Christ. We remain human, still 100 percent capable of making mistakes or errors. You have your failures and flaws, and I have my share.
Because perfection is an impossibility for humanity, that also includes our work. Nothing we say or do will be perfect, 100 percent on target. While everyone should take pride in their work product and output, that will also not be perfect. But some of what we produce will be noticeably better than others. This also includes the songs created by musicians, as a clip posted on YouTube makes perfectly clear.
In the video, Chris appeared on Johns podcast, Net Positive. At one point during their conversation, John raised the topic of songwriting, specifically bad songwriting. He asked the longtime popular Christian musician about his process for handling songs that are not up to his standardthe ones that will not make it onto the record. Chris had a hilarious response, sharing how he prefers to handle those kinds of situations.
Like if you write hits, there have to be some that dont make it, John said.
Theres a lot, Chris said. Theres a lot. Theres way more that dont make it. Way more.
But are you the guy who says, or you just kind of let it play out when the write sessions over? John asked.
I let it play out, just my personality, Chris said. I just let it play out.
Im going, Theres no chance. This song has no chance to see the light of day,' Chris added.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Nate Bargatze thinks his parents may have been living in their rented house the wrong way. The popular funnyman shared the unbelievably hilarious reason for his odd belief about his parents. Watch the short but hilarious clip to hear what specific thing led Nate to arrive at this strange conclusion.
Most people still consider home ownership part of the American dream. Honestly, who doesnt want a place to call their own? Renting is a nice alternative, but home ownership is often the goal. Sadly, with the increase in the price of nearly everything imaginable, owning a home for some individuals will always remain a dream.
Whether you own or rent, securing shelter to protect yourself from the elements is vital. To make a house feel like a home, most people will decorate it in a way that makes it feel cozy and inviting. However, as Nate explains in a clip posted on YouTube, its always a good idea to figure out which way is the front of the house first.
In the video, he says his parents rented a home when he was born. But his father mentioned something rather odd about their home: the front door was a sliding glass door. However, the houses back door was a standard door that locks and unlocks as normal. Nate has a working theory that might help explain his parents strange front door.
And they said the front door of the home was a sliding glass door, and I was like, That doesnt make sense, Nate said. Like, how do you even lock it? You can only lock those with a pole.
He then asked his parents a critical question about the house.
I was like, Are you sure you did not live in this home backwards? Nate asked. That makes more sense to me than your front door being a sliding glass door. And theyre like, No, thats what it was. And I was like, What did the back door look like? And they go, A regular door.

Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence brought the laughs as a pair of tourists looking for stars. The comedic legends flex their considerable funny muscles in this laugh-out-loud, hysterical sketch from The Carol Burnett Show. Watch the short but hilarious clip in which Carol and Vicki are two tourists hoping to see celebrities.
When meeting someone new, one of the first questions asked or topics discussed is what someone does for a living. To a certain extent, we all define ourselves by our professions. We describe ourselves to others by stating that we are this or that, our 9-5, Monday through Friday position. People then attach a certain level of value and prestige depending on the perceived importance of the position.
Jobs with a certain level of visibility are considered more interesting, exciting and important, as are those who hold those positions. Its that line of thinking for why many people put actors and actresses on a pedestal, looking at them as almost mythical, otherworldly beings. The truth is that they are just like you and me, but they appear on television and recite lines written by someone else.
In a clip posted on YouTube, Carol and Vicki are on vacation and looking for stars of stage and screen. The skit begins with the pair entering the famed Brown Derby in Hollywood. Because they arent famous, they are treated with disdain and contempt, but neither seems too bothered by the restaurant staffs annoyance at their presence.
Moments after they are seated, the ladies spot a star. Legendary Hollywood actress Rita Hayworth, accompanied by her agent, enters the restaurant and sits at a table in the center of the room. Ritas presence in the restaurant is too much for Carol and Vicki to ignore. They must say hello and get an autograph.
But Carol is not done. She continues to interact with the actress and disrupt her meal. Right before the skit ends, another famous face enters the restaurant and joins her for lunch.
Job 8:21 The time will come when your mouth will be full of laughing, and cries of joy will come from your lips.
One comedians hilarious take on teenagers will have parents cracking up. The funnyman, Dustin Nickerson, says what every parent has thought and experienced at one time or another. Watch the short but hysterical clip to hear what Dustin said about teenagers that will have the parents nodding right along as they laugh themselves silly.
Parenting is not for the weak. Children will test you in every way imaginable, as every parent knows and understands. They will get on your nerves as they scream and cry endlessly. But at the end of the day, you would not trade those moments with your little one for anything.
However, those little ones eventually grow up, and things change dramatically. They become teenagers, and everything you thought you knew about your child gets thrown out the window. Everything instantly becomes much more difficult when raising a teenager, often in ways you never thought about.
In a clip posted on YouTube, Dustin hilariously shares some of his experiences as a father, mentioning some of what happens to them as teenagers. Every parent listening will easily be able to relate to most of what Dustin says.
Teenagers, I love you. God bless you. Not real people yet, Dustin says. A teenager is not a human. That is a rough draft of a human. If you turned them in, it wouldnt be a failing grade. It would be incomplete; do you understand me? Its in process, its not done.
He then mentions some of the odd ways in which teenagers change, including their smells and looks.
The face? You look like a baby with a mustache, he says. Whats that look? The smell? You smell sour. Who smells sour? You smell like behind an Applebees. Do you have a grease trap in your pocket? Like, what?
Job 8:21 The time will come when your mouth will be full of laughing, and cries of joy will come from your lips.
Comedian Michael Jr. hilariously imagined Mary and Joseph praying after realizing they had lost Jesus. His take on the earthly parents of Jesus reaching out to God after losing their son will have you laughing long after the clip ends. Watch this short but hysterical clip to hear what Michael Jr. believes Mary and Joseph may have prayed after they learned Jesus was missing.
We are all sinners and have fallen well short of Gods glory, as the Bible mentions. While we may be sinners and have openly defied God and His commands, Jesus Christ is the x-factor, the difference maker. He has changed everything, giving hope where there was none. He offers forgiveness and love to all who confess their sins and turn away from their old lives.
The Bibles New Testament captures Christs ultimate, life-changing sacrifice, how He willingly went to the cross, suffering and dying in our place. But that isnt the only event the Bible details in Christs life on Earth. When he was 12 years old, while traveling with Mary and Joseph to Jerusalem, Jesus stayed behind in the city. Mary and Joseph werent aware that Jesus had done this for a day or so, as mentioned in Luke. Basically, they had lost Him.
In a clip posted on social media, Michael Jr. imagines what Joseph and Mary might have sounded like when they prayed to God after realizing that Jesus was missing.
You know the first thing they had to do was pray, he said. I wonder what that prayer must have sounded like. Joseph probably did the prayer. He was like, Oh God. Dear God, oh forgiving God. You remember that Messiah you gave us? You got another one somewhere, man? That was the only begotten Son? Ok, were going to find Him. Were going to find Him. Were going to find Him.
How do you reach out to God and say that you have lost His one and only Son? That wouldnt have been a fun prayer to have to make.
Luke 2:44-45 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a days journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
Comedian Don McMillian tested some new jokes that left the audience cracking up. He wanted to see how people would react to some of his latest material, and it went well. He got some pretty big laughs. Watch the short but hysterical clip to hear Don tell a handful of hilariously funny jokes.
While its rarely a fun way to go about things, often the best way to learn something is through trial and error. You do something, and if it doesnt go as expected, you figure out why and change it for the next time. As you can imagine, it can be a slow and painful process. But for someone, in some instances, trial and error is necessary.
One type of person who uses the trial-and-error method is a comedian. They try a joke on stage, but if it doesnt get the laughs they thought it should have, they change something about it or move on to the next one and drop it altogether. In a clip posted on YouTube, Don tries out some new material on stage. He wants to see how the audience responds to his jokes, and it goes well.
Basically, Dons new jokes are a series of dad jokes. But they are much better than the ones youve heard until now. Yes, he uses wordplay and puns in the punchlines, but these wont cause you to roll your eyes excessively.
His first joke concerns the National Rifle Association. He asks whether they use bullet points when giving a presentation. Get it? Again, I told you they were dad jokes, but at least these are original and will make you laugh out loud.
He also jokes about how a statistician concludes, based on the worlds population being an odd number, that there is not someone for everyone. He also includes a hilarious joke about how a dad says they do not tithe at church because they are non-denominational.
Job 8:21 The time will come when your mouth will be full of laughing, and cries of joy will come from your lips.
A comedian shared a funny story about his wifes childhood birthday party. The funnyman Jonnie W. mentioned what his wife said about her birthday party that will have you laughing long after the clip ends. Watch the short but hysterical clip to hear what his wife said, which will have you laughing yourself silly.
Everyone says things that they immediately regret. Who hasnt been there and done that? If you say you havent, understand that everyone knows you arent being truthful. Sadly, once those words leave your mouth, its impossible to put them back inside. Its human nature to blurt out words carelessly. Thats why its always important to think about and consider our words before they exit our mouths.
However, most of the time, when we regret saying things, its because our words hurt someone else. This can and does happen unintentionally and on purpose. Neither of them is really better than the other, especially if they end up with the same result: someone hurt. In both instances, we must apologize and try to improve next time.
But what happens when we say something, without thinking, that makes us sound, for lack of a better word, dumb? Those statements cant be taken back either. In a clip posted on YouTube, Jonnie shares a conversation with his wife in which she said something that made him do a double-take and question her statement.
In the video, he shares how they talked about birthday parties and how she only had one as a child. It was when she was 8 years old, and it was E.T. themed, given that the movie was big then. The party came with everything E.T. you could think of and name cake, candles and party hats.
She goes, E.T. came to my party! he recalled. I go, What! She goes, Yeah, but I found out later it was just some lady in a suit.
He had an immediate response to her statement about E.T.
I said, Say that last part again, he said. She said, No. She realized. I said, You mean to tell me, it wasnt even the real E.T.?

Don Rickles hilariously played a frustrated shoe salesman on The Carol Burnett Show. The legendary comedian, best known for his insult comedy, appeared in a skit where he lobbed one insult after another at everyone. Watch the short but hysterical clip to see Dons appearance in a classic sketch from The Carol Burnett Show.
Work is a must for nearly everyone, unless youre born into an incredibly wealthy family or are a trust-fund kind who wont have to worry about money. For the rest of the population, they must find a way to make a living, and working a 9-to-5 job is the most obvious way to accomplish that task. Yes, every job has its negatives, but most people are able to get beyond them because they need the paycheck at the end of the week.
However, sometimes, frustrations about the job can become too much, and thats when its best to simply and quietly quit and find another place of employment. That is the route most people take, anyway. The less conventional and the one that should be avoided at all costs involves letting everyone you work with know what you really think and feel about them. Guess which route Don Rickles took in a Carol Burnett Show skit?
In the skit, Don is a shoe salesman who has just about had it with his job. He is tired of the job, but especially the annoying, whiny and demanding customers. Don is also not particularly fond of his boss, who is played by Harvey Korman in the sketch. After being pushed too far, Don explodes, letting loose with a series of insults, directing them at the customers and his boss.
The entire skit is absolutely hilarious, but the best part is how Harvey tries but fails miserably to keep it together as Don comes at him with one insult after another. It turns out that Tim Conway isnt the only one who could make Harvey burst out laughing in the middle of a skit.
